Introduction

Hello Classmates!

My name is Morgan and my topic is Sexual Health. I choose this topic because I am currently enrolled in Human Sexuality and I am learning about things that I had no prior knowledge of. Most of us, if not all of us, have been through sex education in middle school but the information we are given is limited and overly structured. We learn about contraceptives and sexually transmitted infections but there is so much more to our sexual health. We should also be informed about the emotional effects of sex and we should be embracing sex positivty.

I am looking forward to this project and learning from each other
Lets have a lot of fun with this,
Morgan

  1. I'm taking the Human Sexuality Class as well! Such an interesting class and topic. It is wild that sex is such a natural event that happens in a persons life, yet we are taught little about it. I have also been learning a lot in the class that I never knew before. While I'm in the class it makes me think, dang I wish they taught this in dept of a class to high school kids that are at a crucial sexual time in their life.
I totally agree with how we should be embracing sex positively because if it is looked down upon it makes some people feel as though it is a sin and they never want to engage in it. One of my friends used to tell me she feels gross/wrong having sex. Which is so sad because it should be exciting and fun to do with a loving partner.

Super excited for your posts! I'll see ya in class! :)

    1. I am having a lot of fun in that class. I can't help but think the same about how to teach these kinds of topics to high school students, and maybe alter it for middle school students as well! I am agree that it is sad that your friend feels that way, I know a girl who does not even like to look at herself in the shower. She is scared of sex because she fears the way she looks and I think that is partially how we view sex in America and partially how we teach sex education in America.
My next post is tomorrow and I am running out of topics that are not sexually transmitted diseases or infections and pregnancy, do you have any suggestions or ideas you are interested to read about?

    2. Wow your class sounds very interesting. I have always been interested in human sexuality. It is really crazy because there was not one school that I went to that taught sex education. My mom was the one who talked to me about it. I think that it is very important to address human sexuality because this is something that happens in people everyday lives. I should definitely take this class as an elective, I know that I would enjoy it. This is a great topic you picked and I am looking forward to reading your post.
